Nestled in the heart of the Western Ghats, Kudremukh is a beautiful trek across gently rolling green hills and misty valleys. This is the third highest peak in Karnataka at 6207ft.
Cloud kissing mountains, bamboo shrubs and dozens of water streams throughout the trail to reach a peak shaped like a horse face (“Kudremukh” in Kannada), it has it all and is a must do trek during the monsoons. During the trek, one also gets to see varieties of flora and fauna. If you are lucky enough, you may get to see sambhar, deer and peacocks.
The trek is graded moderate with a trail being 22 km long.
Night 1: Travel to Kudremukh
You start early in the evening for this long journey. Drive through the incredible views of the western ghats leading up to the Kudremukh national park. We stop on the way for dinner, then onwards to a midnight journey till Kudremukh. You reach early in the morning to our homestay.
Day 1: Trek to Kudremukh
Early morning after reaching homestay we freshen up and have a nice breakfast. We start from homestay with packed lunch, trek starting point is Mullodi village and it’s just 10km from here. Only jeep can go till Mullodi and journey is more adventures through mountain ridges. After jeep drop at start point we do quick briefing and introduction and start walking towards forest check post, finish all formalities then start trek towards Kudremukh peak. Starting 4km trek through lush green jungles and multiple water streams you will be crossing every 30 mins. This entire trek is an amazing experience as the landscape offers a gentle gradient in the initial phases.
As you go further up, the beauty of the place increases, as you see clouds coming very near to you, also you can experience the Western ghats’ beautiful landscape. It's a good mix of forest cover and open walks.On the trail you can watch and hear lots of different birds, beautiful cascades and flowers as well, if you are lucky enough then you can spot deers also on the way. The last two km path is quite steep and it tastes your fitness physically and mentally, keep the pace steady. Once you reach the top, one can go higher into the vast mesmerizing fields of green carpet below. Pristine clouds, lush green valleys interspersed by shola forests, clear streams and waterfalls. The experience cannot be described in words. Start trekking back to check post, you retrace the same trail. Reach homestay freshen up and night if weather permits you will be having a campfire and unlimited fun. Overnight stay in homestay.
Day 2: Visit Belur Temple and Drive back to Bangalore
Morning after having breakfast we start our return journey from the homestay. On the way we visit Belur temple. The temple is a true architectural delight. Built during the Hoysala dynasty during the 12th - 13th Century, showcases the beautiful architecture and the skills of "Jakanachari" - the chief architect and sculptor of the temple. The temple is very old and is classified as a UNESCO site. After temple visit, we start back our return journey, on the way we stop for lunch, reach Bangalore around 9pm.
